Space age red rocket lamp from Sovjet Russia. On top of the lamp is a rocket. When dark it looks like the rocket being launched with a red beam. The lamps were very populair in the Sovjet Union. These lamps were made in the legendary Yuzmash factory were also real rockets were being produced.
The lamp was dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the first Yuriy Gagarin’s flight into space. Initially, in the project documentation the working title was “The First Start into Space”, but later it was replaced by a shorter “Rocket”. The launch of the first batch began in January 1971. The “Rocket” night light immediately became popular among soviet buyers, in spite of being quite expensive for that times (about one sixth of the Soviet person’s salary). The “Rocket” went into retail in a small, limited quantity, most of which went to awards as valuable gifts for production leaders and party functionaries. That’s why this vintage thing causes sustained interest even today.
The lamp comes in various models. The lamps with a red beam are more rarer then the white beam lamps. The bottom ring comes in various colors like green, blue (rare), and white. The ring with the images is mostly like the lamp pictured as above with images such as: Aerospace, peace, frienship, industry, constitution, 25th. congress, 70th. birthday of Lenin, revolution, industrylization, hero workers and the great patriotic war. There is also a known lamp with only space images. The lamps are known for the 23rd., 24th., 25th., 26th., and 27th. congress. The earlier type of this lamp has got two litghbulbs inside and the more recent has got 1 lightbulb.
