The belongs to one of the most interesting parts of the labor system of the Peoples Republic of Hungary. It was a badge worn by a “Worker Guardian”.
A worker guardian was a worker, who has not enlisted in the military, who trained like the military for the necessity of civil defense. during the administration of Janos Kadar, the military budget of Hungary was drastically reduced in order to raise the living standards of the citizens. Millions of Hungarian workers (organized by trade unions) trained with rifles, mortars, machine guns, and even artillery to support the regular military in the event of an invasion.
