The Marx-Engels-Werke (MEW, also known as the Blue Volumes) is a popular and much-cited study edition of the works of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. It is about 44 volumes (in 46 books), which from 1956 by the Institute for Marxism-Leninism at the Central Committee of the SED (Vol. 1-42), by the Institute for the History of the Labor Movement (Vol. 43), and by the Rosa-Luxemburg-Foundation (Vol. 44) were published by Dietz Verlag in Berlin. With the 1,700 writings and 4,170 letters printed in the 44 volumes of the MEW, the edition remains the most comprehensive edition of the literary legacy of Marx and Engels.

The output can be divided into three or four areas: Vol. 1-22 works and writings, Vol. 23-26.3 economic writings, Vol. 27-39 letters, Vol. 40-44 are supplements.
