The Mansu Hill Grand Monument is a complex of monuments in Pyongyang, North Korea. There are 229 figures in all, commemorating the history of the revolutionary struggle of the Korean people, and especially their leaders. The central part of the monument consists of two 20-meter-tall (66 ft.) bronze statues of deceased North Korean leaders Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il.
The monument was originally dedicated in April 1972 in honor of Kim Il Sung’s 60th birthday. At the time, the monument featured only Kim Il Sung. The statue was originally covered in gold leaf, but was later altered to bronze. Following Kim Jong Il’s death in 2011, a similar statue of him was erected on the north side of Kim Il Sung.

Set of 10 original North Korean Pyongyang propaganda postcards are made around 1970 and devoted to the Monument symbolized Victory of the Pochonbo Battle.
The monument stands on Kwoegungjong Hill in the central part of Hyesan and is 38.7 metres/127feet high. The monument was erected in 1967. In the centre of the monument stands the statue of President Kim Il Sung in military uniform, and behind him are group sculptures of the anti-Japanese revolutionary fighters on their march, holding the fluttering red flag.
The Battle of Pochonbo was an event that took place in North Korea on June 4, 1937 under the command of Kim Il-Sung (North Korea’s first leader from 1948 to 1994), then 24 years old, during the anti-Japanese fight in the Korea.

Kim Il Sung (born 1912) was leader of North Korea from 1948 until 1994 when he died. He outlived Stalin by 4 decades, Mao Zedong with 2, and stayed in power long enough to outrun 6 South Korean presidents, 9 USA presidents and 21 Japanese prime ministers. After his death his son Kim Jong Il became the leader of North Korea. The North Korean goverment to this day refers Kim Il Sung as the Supreme Leader and the Eternal President.

The Chollima Horse is a mythical wingend horse and an important symbol of North Korea. It is said to be able to cover long distances at amazing speed. It is the nickname of the North Korea national football team and it gave it’s name to the Chommilla movement wich promoted fast economic development, much like the “great leap forward” in China.
In the capital PyonYang there is a Chollima statue wich is 46 meters high and 16 meters wide.
