Ernesto “Che” Guevara (1928-1967) was an Argentine Marxist revolutionary, physician, author, guerrilla leader, diplomat, and military theorist. A major figure of the Cuban Revolution, his stylized visage has become a ubiquitous countercultural symbol of rebellion and global insignia in popular culture.
As a young medical student, Guevara traveled throughout South America and was radicalized by the poverty, hunger, and disease he witnessed. His desire to help overturn what he saw as the capitalist exploitation of Latin America by the United States. prompted his involvement in Guatemala’s social reforms..
Later in Mexico City, Guevara met Raúl and Fidel Castro, joined their 26th of July Movement, and sailed to Cuba aboard the yacht Granma with the intention of overthrowing U.S.-backed Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista. Guevara soon rose to prominence among the insurgents, was promoted to second in command and played a pivotal role in the victorious two-year guerrilla campaign that deposed the Batista regime.

Cuban book about militairy Operation Carlota in Angola. The text on the cover says:”The carlota operation has concluded victory of Cuban internationalism”.
In November 1975 Cuba launched a large -scale military intervention in support of the leftist People’s Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) against United States-backed interventions by South Africa and Zaire in support of two right-wing independence movements competing for power in the country, the National Liberation Front of Angola (FNLA) and the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA). By the end of 1975, the Cuban military in Angola numbered more than 25,000 troops. Following the withdrawal of Zaire and South Africa, Cuban forces remained in Angola to support the MPLA government against UNITA in the continuing Angolan Civil War. Cuban military engagement in Angola ended in 1991, while the Angolan civil war continued until 2002.

This pin is about the Interkosmos space program. This pin is probably issued in 1980 when Cuban Arnaldo Tamayo Mendez travelled into orbit in the Interkosmos space program. As a member of the crew of Soyuz 38 he was the first Cuban citizen and the first person of African heritage in space. Together with Yuri Romanenko from the Soviet Union.
He has been honored by the Cuban Government for being the first Cuban, the first Caribbean, and the first Latin American to go into orbit. He was awarded the titles of Hero of the Republic of Cuba and the Order of Playa Giron. He also is a recipient of the Hero of the Soviet Union award.
Interkosmos was a Soviet space program, designed to help the Soviet Union’s allies with manned and unmanned space missions.
The program included the allied east European nations of the Warsaw Pact and other socialist nations like Afghanistan, Cuba, Mongolia, and Vietnam. In addition, pro Soviet nations such as India and Syria participated, and even France and Austria, despite them being capitalist nations.
