The Yugoslav Partisans, was the Communist-led resistance to the Axis powers during World War II. It is considered to be Europe’s most effective anti-Axis resistance movement during World War II, often compared to the Polish resistance movement.
The resistance was led by the Communist Party of Yugoslavia.Its commander was Marshal Josip Broz Tito.

Above the flames was the communist symbol of the red star. The ribbon that holds the wheat together is dated 29 November 1943, the day the AVNOJ met in Jajce and proclaimed the new communist federation.
The number of flames was increased from five to six in 1963. Originally, the five flames represented the Croats, Serbs, Slovenes, Macedonians and Montenegrins. Other nations, such as the Bosniaks / Muslims and Albanians, were not represented in the coat of arms. From 1963, the six flames represent the six Yugoslav states.
Cap is made of felt and embroidered.
On top is the coat of arms embroidered with the date 29-11-1943.

Ship Neštin class river minesweeper with towed Oropesa. Museum piece, very unique.
Ship and oropesa are made of aluminum brass, copper and rope, entirely on brass spheres that rests on a wooden base. Some parts are painted ivory white. There is some paint damage on the bottom of the brass spheres that connect the model to the base. But only visible with good viewing. The copper shield on the base says:”To Commemorate The Staff Of MN9680″.
The Neštin class minesweeper is a class of minesweeper built specifically for clearing navy mines on rivers. The class was built for the needs of the Yugoslav Navy on the Danuberiver and was also sold to Hungary and Iraq in the 1970s and 80s.
Design; In the 1970s, a new river minesweeper design was requested to replace the 301-class minesweeper with the Yugoslav Navy. The Neštin class was designed by the Naval Institute of the Yugoslav Navy. All minesweepers are built by the Brodotehnika shipyard in Belgrade. They can load and lay 18 contactless mines of the type AIM-M82 or 24 anchor R-1 mines, as well as 80 fully equipped troops.
Countermeasure equipment includes mechanical mine hunter MDL-2R, improvised electromagnetic/acoustic mine hunter PEAM-1 and explosive mine hunter AEL.
The Neštin class is powered by two Torpedo B-539RM / 2 engines of 121 kW each.
An Oropesa is a towed body used for mine sweeping. The Oropesa’s role is to keep the towed body at a certain depth and position from the minesweeping vessel. Oropesa are standard equipment used on standard class mine action ships.

The Kingdom of Yugoslavia came into existence in 1918 after the First World War. It was formed out of the territories of the former Austria-Hungarian Empire.
In 1941 the country was invaded bij the Axis powers and in 1945 the partisans (led by Josip Tito) abolished the kingdom and installed a communistic state under rule of Tito. He was the president until is dead in 1980.
From 1991 until 2001 several wars broke out between etnic groups within Yugoslavia. Resulting in The Yugoslav Wars or Balkan Wars. Often described as Europe’s deadliest conflicts since World War II. At least 300.000 people were killed.
The former Yugoslavia is now split into several country’s, Serbia, Kroatia, Montenegro, Bosnia, Slovenia and Macedonia.

The Tito Escort Battalion was Tito’s personal partisan escort battalion wich was founded in 1942 and responsible for his personal safety during World War II.
They were engaged in numerous battles with German troops and suffered lots of casualties. They fought in the Axis Case Black Offensive in Serbia and they hold off the German 500th. SS Parachute Battalion. So they were not to be messed with.
